About the Brand

Codex Luminaria is an invitation-only, 21+ book lounge which came about from a business owner who has always found their escape in books & stories, and found their passion in immersion. They wanted to create a space for other literature enthusiasts who, like them, wanted to escape from reality - even for a short time.

Codex Luminaria was created to be a safe & atmospheric social environment for individuals who want to get out more, but may tend more on the introverted side of the social spectrum. A space where people could come to meet and get to know other book lovers or just have a delicious drink and treat while reading their favorite book in one of the unexpectedly comfortable lounge chairs. This literary speakeasy is a community-focused venue which hosts more intimate events, like author meet & greets, book clubs, workshops, themed parties, and more.

About the Brief

The primary goal with the branding for Codex Luminaria was to evoke the feeling of stepping back in time. We wanted guests to feel as though they were transported back to a prohibition-era speakeasy - with a twist. It needed to feel forbidden (without actually being illegal), but it also needed to feel enchanting, cozy in the way a library or bookstore feels cozy, and a little bit sinful.
Because of the desired emotional reaction we were going for, we blended two distinctive aesthetics - Art Deco and Dark Academia.
We created the entire visual aesthetic, from logo design, to menu designs, all the way to furniture selection.

8Bit Insights is a people-first, employee-owned, values-driven data consultancy. It is a small system integrator company, focused on driving business outcomes using modern analytics & AI solutions. They are determined to build an organization focused on their 8 core values, bit by bit.

The founding team decided to form 8Bit Insights after experiencing what it was like to work at their dream company, only to have it purchased in an acquisition deal, which then drove the company culture too far into the realm of 'Corporate Tech.' They felt that the company they now worked for no longer aligned with their own personal values and turned that feeling into the momentum and drive to build their own dream company - an employee-owned full service data consultancy that operates with integrity, compassion, and professionalism.

8Bit Insights is a brand that needed to stand out from everyone else in the tech world while still maintaining its foothold in the tech space. They needed their branding to convey who they are, not only as a company, but as the individuals behind the company. It needed to tell the story of how they are... fun, bold, community-focused, friendly, and experts at what they do. The aesthetic direction chosen is called 'Neo-Naturewave,' which takes the retro arcade/sci-fi look & feel, the modern & clean sci-fi aesthetic, and blends it with nature and natural elements, demonstrating endless growth, learning, and progress.

Sharper angled, more geometric, low contrast sans serif font to bring a more sleek & futuristic aspect to the 'retro arcade' feel.

About the Brand

Seed Street Toys is a small business based in Northern California which prides themselves in creating safety-focused handmade foraging and shredding toys for companion parrots, made to the highest quality possible. After working in an avian hospital and seeing far too many commercial toy-related injuries, the Seed Street founder knew there was a hole in the market for high quality, fun & SAFE toys for our feathered friends.

Not only does Seed Street make and sell the most adorable and enriching parrot toys, but the founder has also undergone training from some of the brightest minds in the avian world to become an avian behaviorist. They work diligently to get to the root of behavioral and bonding issues with their clients' companion parrots so that both human and bird may live their best lives.

About the Brief

The goal with this brand identity was to create something that captured the heart and feeling of what it is to have companion parrots in your life. They are bold, loud, colorful, playful, adorable, silly, cheeky... the list goes on. We created branding that resonates with what people love the most about their parrots - they're goofy and hilarious.
We leaned into the bold & colorful, and included elements of torn or shredded paper in addition to a paper cutout art style to capture not only the toys themselves, but also how birds interact with and destroy them in their joy.

The primary logo includes what Seed Street Toys sells as well as what makes them special

The founder's birds - Grouch (left) & Ravioli (right) - were the two main sources of inspiration behind many of Seed Street's toys for a long time. Including them in the logo is a nod to the founder's love for their birds, and to where they started.

Round logo so that it may easily be printed onto a sticker for sealing pouches and wrappers, but the round shape also represents openness and friendliness.

About the Brief

The goal with this brand identity was to create a brand identity for a media company that targets young Millennials and Gen Z content creators. Because of the target audience, we kept it clean and simple with a strong sans serif typeface as the primary font and added eclipse-themed visual interest in the form of the arch and solar flare, like what one may see during a solar eclipse, just before or after the sun is entirely overtaken by the moon. We also utilized a pop of a bright and energetic color to make the symbolism within "Eclipse" stand out and take center stage - just like Eclipse Media Group does for their clients.

About the Brand

Fused Expressions is the brand of a fused glass artist who, after taking classes to learn and indulge in a long-time interest, decided to start selling their work.

The artist is from Northern Michigan and has always found creative inspiration in the beautiful landscapes that the mitten state has to offer - specifically the numerous bodies of water in the summer and the glittering snow in the winter.

In their business, they wanted to be able to provide their customers with little luxuries - items that are primarily decorative - as well as functional art, such as platters, vases, plates, bowls, and more. As everything is hand cut and pieced together and then melted and fused in a kiln, no two pieces will ever be exactly the same.

About the Brief

Fused Expressions is all about modern and approachable luxury. Since the artist's primary inspiration comes from the Michigan beaches, we needed the branding to reflect the lightness and airiness of a relaxing, indulgent day at the beach blended with the clean-cut & delicate minimalistic feel that glass provides. It was important that we combined the quiet calm & contented emotions that the artist wants their customers to feel with a touch of playfulness that one experiences with a day at the beach.

EMBRACEIT is a permanent jewelry brand started by a founder who discovered a deep personal connection with their own permanent jewelry after some tough times.

They noticed a hole in the local market for a permanent jewelry brand and decided to take it upon themselves to bring the concept and practice of permanent jewelry to Northern Michigan.

EMBRACEIT is geared toward those who appreciate sentiment and understated luxury.

About the Brief

As this was a Mini Brand Identity, the founder of EMBRACEIT walked away from this project with a primary logo, secondary logo, brandmark logo, two selected brand fonts, and four brand colors, all of which reflects their end goal of conveying delicate, understated luxury and the sentimentality that (usually) accompanies the desire to acquire a piece of permanent jewelry. Whether it represents a loved one, a fond memory, or anything else that means something to the wearer, the jewelry & brand should always evoke emotion.

Spellbound Creative Studio is the best choice I could have made when I needed to redo my branding and website. From our chance encounter at a local tavern (Women in Tech at a local brewery), everything from there on after felt like I was rolling a natural 20. Websites in my industry have some cookie cutter qualities; Jaime delivered a memorable, bold, cheeky, and personalized website that perfectly encapsulates my business and will help us stand out from the competition. The process was organized and easy to follow. Every step that we did helped to define us, our design likes and dislikes, and guided us to the final product in a logical yet thrilling journey. We didn’t need any large direction changes or design changes, because Jaime was so careful to understand us. When she delivered two brand directions to us, it was nearly a coin flip to decide, because we loved both versions so much for different reasons.

The brand guidelines and assets that were delivered were so thoughtful and encompassing. I originally thought I needed just a logo and some brand colors, but Jaime delivered patterns, icons, an entire logo suite, and everything I needed to launch on social media. She really thought of everything, and the cohesion and consistency are such a relief to a design-challenged business owner like me. A dozen things I never would have dreamed of were already complete, ready-to-use, and documented.

The website was an utter dream come true. Jaime knows her stuff inside and out, so the website is polished and detailed design elements were applied. Once again, it was love at first sight for the design, so we didn’t need to change anything. I can’t emphasize enough how much the process informs the results – taking the time to understand us, and asking us to take the time to really define ourselves, meant that we skipped all the back and forth of redesigns or trying to arrive at a common vision. It’s clear from every communication and deliverable, that we were working with a creative professional.
